BY Dave Schultz—Come join neighbors cleaning up our beautiful Oella landscape! Volunteering can take one of two forms:
- We’ll have a group working behind Long Brick Row (700-744 Oella Avenue) to clear as much brush, vines, and fallen limbs off the Mill Race as we can and create a better view of the stone wall and Patapsco River. Join us anytime between 9:00am-1:00pm. If you can, bring gloves and any bush/vine/branch cutting devices you have (e.g., pruners, loppers, pole/tree saws, hedge trimmers, machetes, bush axes, chainsaws). But, if you don’t have any of these things, just show up…we’ll put you to work!
- Alternatively, you can organize your immediate neighbors to clean up a hillside or area near you anywhere in Oella. We’ll have a pickup truck available that day to haul away any bags of trash you create. If you’re interested in doing a local project like this but not sure if you have the materials/tools you need, get in touch with Dave (email below) to see if we can make it happen.
After the cleanup, we’ll have a late lunch and refreshments at 2:00pm at the Dutch Hotel 837 Oella Avenue Ellicott City MD 21043.
RSVP to Dave Schultz to let us know you’re coming: . Even if you haven’t RSVP’ed, though, no biggie…come on out anyway!

Post-Event Report
Despite the change in dates because of the rain, we had a good turnout for our cleanup two weekends ago and have a much better view of the Mill Race and the river behind Long Brick Row as a result. I think we all feel good about what we did and how we joined together with our neighbors to do it.

Next Cleanup Planned for April 22nd
On Saturday, April 22nd, we’ll take on weeding two stone walls on Oella Avenue, first the one across from Long Brick Row and second the one below Pleasant Hill Road. Come on out between 9:00-12:00 to help weed to make these walls shine even brighter. If you can, bring gloves and any weed/vine pulling/cutting devices you have. If you don’t have any of these things, though, just show up….we’ll have gloves and tools for you.
Afterward, we’ll have lunch at my house, 837 Oella Avenue (the Dutch Hotel). RSVP to me, Dave Schultz, to let us know you’re coming: [email protected]. Even if you haven’t RSVP’ed, though, no biggie…come on out anyway!
